Updated 6th April 15:34pm: New* Get Creative for Easter Sunday, Worship & Prayer at Home Booklet & Where To Get Help

All church services and gatherings are online.

Dear Friends,

You will be aware of the series of steps and measures being taken to manage the Coronavirus - COVID-19 pandemic and we as a church are seeking to respond in line with the advice from our Bishop, the national church, medical authorities, and our government. This letter outlines the way in which St Jude’s, Southsea is acting in line with the needs of our nation in these exceptional times.

The Church Building Is Closed

In line with the advice that we all need to stay at home to prevent overloading the NHS with new cases, we have decided to close the St Jude’s building. This will prevent people from gathering and ensure the safety of our staff and their families.

New* Get Creative for Easter Sunday

There have been lots of messages in windows to support the NHS in the last few weeks. We are
thinking that it would be good to put the words - He Is Risen – in our windows so that people can still
reflect on the wonderful truth of Easter. For those out for a walk this might just make them think.

New* Worship and Prayer at Home Booklet

For those who can’t connect with the internet services, we have produced a booklet of Worship and Prayer Resources for those at home. Forty copies have been sent out to those who we felt would appreciate them. If you know of anyone else who might benefit and has not received a copy please contact the pastoral team by email and we will post one to them. Email pastoral@sjs.church

Pastoral Team

Our telephone lists are in place to help and support those we know of who are in most immediate need. But we will also be trying to stay in touch with all our church members so if we call you please do not be put out. A friendly voice on the phone can really lift the spirits so this is a chance for us all to get involved. Please take time to call those you are connected with or any who might be feeling lonely at this time. This is a real chance for us to build community in the face of this crisis. It has been great to hear already of so much support being given. If there are pastoral situations that you’d like to inform us about please contact:

Prayer

Please do send in any prayer requests through the form on the 'Prayer' tab of this website. You can also ask that your prayer request is kept private and it will be passed on in confidence to the pastoral team. Look there for more general prayers as well. The prayer page also has the form of prayers that we use for morning prayer in church. Please print this off and use it in the morning – it’s a really good format to find a way into the new normal of our lives now.

Additional Resources

Worship is also available via Premier Christian Radio and UCB radio channels which are available via digital television and DAB radio. There are also lots of resources, as well as the latest information on the church’s response, on the Church of England website.

If you have any stories that you would like us to make public then please send them into the office email.

With love and prayers

Neil
